Description

In this course, elementary school students (grades 2 and up) are introduced to fundamental programming concepts using the MakeCode® graphical programming language.  MakeCode® is similar in structure to the more popular Scratch® graphical programming language; however, MakeCode® offers the simultaneous development of corresponding code in the JavaScript® text-based programming language.  In this manner, students are able to utilize MakeCode® to transition from their previous experience in Scratch® to a follow-up course in JavaScript®.

Using MakeCode®, students learn how to create animations, arcade games, and interactive story projects.  Students also learn to control motors, web interaction elements, integration with circuits, and other advanced concepts.  At the end of the course, students create their own arcade game and share it with their instructor and classmates.

Previous programming using the Scratch® graphical programming language is required.  Parent involvement is recommended for younger students, but is not required.
