Description

Course Description

Beginner Coding with Scratch® is a super-fun way to introduce your child to the wonders of Coding!  Drag, drop, click… you’ll be amazed at what they can do!  NextGen's curriculum keeps things fresh and introduces kids to new and cool ways to practice, create, and design with Scratch.

NextGen SmartyPants teaches Beginner Coding using the Scratch Graphical Programming Language across four increasingly challenging levels:

  • Level 1 - Introduction to Scratch: Sprites, Scripts, Brackdrops, Loops, and Music
  • Level 2 - Broadcasting, Decisions, and Variables
  • Level 3 - Clones, Custom Blocks, and Boolean Logic
  • Level 4 - Controlling Motors and Robotics using Scratch

Students do not need to choose a level prior to enrollment; NextGen Teachers assess experiences on the first day and group students accordingly into project teams for the entire week of camp.  Students are encouraged to re-enroll in Beginner Coding during future camps or classes in order to gain proficiency in Coding by progressing through each of these levels.

Additional Info for Parents:

Students Ages 7-11 receive our Beginner Coding with Scratch program, which is more technical and appropriate for our older coders.  Coding (and STEM, in general) takes practice!

Each of the four levels listed above are designed to require 12-15 hours of lessons.

  • Younger and Students newer to Coding are provided earlier levels more slowly.
  • Students that have registered for this program before, but have not yet completed the curriculum - for example this session only runs for 9-weeks - are recommended to register for this course until they complete all 15 hours of lessons.
  • NextGen Teachers adjust the curriculum so that they can pick up where they left off.
  • Summer Camps and Spring Break are a great time to complete the balance of the lessons, for example.

Waitlist

If the course is full, please join the Waitlist.  We use the Waitlist to gauge interest in our programs and, if necessary, add additional classes or run the program again next Semester.  There is no charge to be on the Waitlist; but if for some reason we are not able to accommodate everyone, you will, of course, receive a full refund.

Refund Policy

If your Student tries and really doesn't our programs, just let us know after the first class and we will refund you completely.  This will allow us to offer the program to Families on the Waitlist.

Payment Plan
For those who prefer it, a Payment Plan is offered at check-out on the following screen.  This plan is optional and is administered by an outside company that charges a nominal fee.
