Description

Beginner Engineers is offered for (8) weeks from April 19 to June 7.  Classes are held each Friday after school at Bugbee Elementary School on the following dates:

  • 4/19, 4/26, 5/3, 5/10, 5/17, 5/24, 5/31, 6/7

Enrollment for this program is limited to 14 students only.  If registration is full, please join our Waitlist, so we may contact you if a spot becomes available or if we can add another class session. There is no charge to be on the Waitlist. Payments are processed only upon actual registration of your Student to the program.

Description

LEGO® Beginner Engineers for Grades 2-5

LEGO® Beginner Engineers teaches Students basic Engineering concepts by building super-cool, hands-on projects that seem like magic! Students develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills as they learn about Energy, Heat, Light, and Mechanisms and how they are used in products they experience everyday. Students see their mechanisms move without Motors and learn how energy is converted as they build fun LEGO®-based projects like Wind-Turbines, Solar-Powered Cars, Pneumatics, and much more!

Help them see what's possible!  Watch them grow into the tech leaders of tomorrow in this super-fun course!

 

 

Additional Info for Parents:

NextGen SmartyPants' central mission is to provide Students a way to apply the Math skills they learn in school in a fun and engaging way.  In-School learning teaches them arithmetic, Beginner Engineers teaches them how to apply those Math skills to real-world applications

Students in each grade level are provided opportunities to apply Math skills according to the West Hartford Public Schools Curriculum Maps associated with their grade.  In addition, Beginner Engineers for Grades 2-5 is technically two courses taught together - one for Grades 2-3, the other for Grades 4-5:

  • Although this course only runs for 9-weeks, the curriculum for Grades 2-3 contains 12-contact hours of instruction. Similarly, the curriculum for Grades 4-5 contains 18-contact hours of lessons.
  • Models for Grades 4-5 are different than those for Grades 2-3 as they contain more complex models and technologies that require higher level Math than at the younger grades
  • Students that took Beginner Engineers when they were in Grades 2-3 are recommended to register for this course when they are in Grades 4-5
  • Students inspired by this course are also recommended to register for Beginner Engineers during Summer Camps or Spring Break in order to complete the balance of the curriculum beyond the 9-weeks offered in this course
  • NextGen SmartyPants also teaches Intermediate Engineers, Advanced Engineers, Pneumatics, and Solar & Renewable Energy courses at the Middle School and High School levels

Refund Policy

If your Student tries our program and feels that it is just not for them, let us know after the first class and we will refund you completely.  This will allow us to offer the remaining weeks of the program to Families on the Waitlist.

Payment Plan
For those who prefer it, a Payment Plan is offered at check-out on the following screen.  This plan is optional and is administered by an outside company that charges a nominal fee.
