Description


Beginner Coding with Scratch and Junior Coding with Scratch Junior are held immediately after school at Morley Elementary School.

Classes are held on 9-Fridays @ 3:20PM-4:30PM from Apr-5-Jun-7 on the following dates:

4/5, 4/19, 4/26, 5/3, 5/10, 5/17, 5/24, 5/31, 6/7

No Classes are held on 4/12 due to Spring Break

All NextGen SmartyPants programs meet or exceed all Common Core Standards (CSS) and Next-Generation Science Standards (NGSS) for educational proficiency.  

Students are organized by grade and provided software, equipment, and lesson plans appropriate for their Grade Level.  Students in Grades KG-1 learn using the Scratch Junior graphical programming language.  Students in Grades 2-5 learn using the Scratch graphical programming language.

Description

Beginner Coding with Scratch - Levels A-D for Grades 2-5

Beginner Coding with Scratch® is a super-fun way to introduce your child to the wonders of Coding!  Drag, drop, click… you’ll be amazed at what they can do!  NextGen's curriculum keeps things fresh and introduces kids to new and cool ways to practice, create, and design code with Scratch.  

Beginner Coding using the Scratch Graphical Programming Language is taught in (4) Semesters of 10-12 weeks each:  

  • A - Introduction to Scratch: Sprites, Scripts, Brackdrops, Loops, and Music
  • B - Broadcasting, Decisions, and Variables
  • C - Clones, Custom Blocks, and Boolean Logic
  • D - Controlling Motors and Robotics using Scratch

NextGen SmartyPants Teachers assess experiences on the first day and group Students accordingly into the appropriate level for the entire program.  This allows Students who have taken Coding with us before to continue with more advanced Coding skills as well as new Students to begin at the level that is most appropriate for them.

Junior Coding with Scratch Junior - Levels A-D for Grades K-1

Junior Coding with Scratch® is a super-fun way to introduce your child to the wonders of Coding!  Drag, drop, click… you’ll be amazed at what they can do! NextGen's curriculum keeps things fresh and introduces kids to new and cool ways to practice, create, and design code with Scratch Junior.  

Junior Coding using the Scratch Junior graphical programming language is taught in (4) Semesters of 10-12-weeks each:  

  • A - Intro to Scratch Junior
  • B - Cartoon Animation
  • C - Playground Games We Play
  • D - Junior Game Design

All children new to Scratch Junior will receive our Intro to Scratch Junior curriculum.  Students having previously enrolled in Scratch Junior with NextGen SmartyPants one of the other three listed.  Kids are grouped together based on experience and interests so that they can learn, interact, and play!
