Description

This full-day camp helps students build their Robotics and Coding skills by exposing them to the application of Coding both on and off the computer.

9AM-12PM: Star Wars Robotics (Space Wars Robotics)

The Empire is amassing; the Rebel fleet will be destroyed if they don't get ready for the onslaught. In this super-awesome course inspired by the Star Wars® movies, kids learn robotics while building and programming space weapons, ships, creatures, and equipment. Teams are asked to modify their design and create a fun story around their projects. Use the Force and save the universe from the Dark Side!

For those students not familiar or not interested in Star Wars, teachers use a Space-theme to create contexts for the projects.

12PM-1PM: Lunch Break

Students should bring nut-free lunch, snacks, and juice to eat and enjoy as they get hungry throughout the day.  Water and restrooms are available.  If weather permits, campers will be taken outside to walk and enjoy the playground nearby.

1PM-4PM: Beginner Engineers

NextGen SmartyPants' Beginner Technic® Engineers teaches kids about Engineering components and Physics concepts through fun and engaging projects.  Learn how to use Gears, Pulleys, Springs, Axle, Bushings, and more as you build and design your own systems.  Students build Rovers, Cranes, Catapults, and more as they learn about angles, forces, and momentum and apply the math skills they learn in school via challenging, hands-on experiences.

NextGen's Beginner Engineers program consists of 18-lessons, each of which take 60-90 minutes to complete.  Students during our 3-hour Summer Camps will experience (2) new lessons, or (1) lesson plus an engineering-related project that requires them to apply concepts from previous lessons.  If your child has taken a 4 or 6-week Beginner Engineers program before, the lesson they will receive will pickup where they left off in curriculum, ensuring they are experiencing new lessons each time or be bumped up into our Intermediate Engineers curriculum.

Final Notes

  • All Campers are expected to be fully self-sufficient and on respectful behavior at all times.  Students are expected to address any special needs, medications, and bathroom responsibilities for themselves.  These include any masks and social distancing requirements that may arise during the Summer.
  • Students are welcome to eat snacks throughout the day and lunch between 12PM-1PM.  'Please' no nuts of any kind may be brought into our maker studio.
  • Early-morning drop-off and/or late-afternoon pickup are available.
