Description

9AM-12PM: Junior Coding with Scratch Junior

Junior Coding with Scratch® Junior is a super-fun way to introduce your child to the wonders of Coding!  Drag, drop, click… you’ll be amazed at what they can do!

NextGen SmartyPants's curriculum keeps things fresh and introduces kids to new and cool ways to practice, create, and code with Scratch Junior in one of five different, week-long levels:

  1. Intro to Scratch Junior
  2. Story-telling - Playground Games We Play
  3. Interactive Cartoon Animations
  4. Making Interactive Mazes
  5. Video Game Design

All students new to Scratch Junior receive NextGen's Intro to Scratch Junior lesson plans.  Students with previous experience with Scratch Junior are grouped together by experience and grade level, and are led through one of the other week=long lesson plans.  Teachers are trained to adjust curriculum content to the abilities of each child.

12PM-1PM: Lunch Break

Students should bring nut-free lunch, snacks, and juice to eat and enjoy as they get hungry throughout the day.  Water and restrooms are available.  If weather permits, campers will be taken outside to walk and enjoy the playground nearby.

1PM-4PM: LEGO City: Space City

Students work together to build civilizations of the past, present, and future. Construct Spaceports, Skyscrapers, Parks, and Police Stations to create new landscapes in Space or Alien Worlds each week. Students learn LEGO® building techniques and design principles like symmetry, color-schemes, geometry, and more.  Let the creativity soar in the ultimate LEGO® building experience!

Final Notes

  • All Campers are expected to be fully self-sufficient and on respectful behavior at all times.  Students are expected to address any special needs, medications, bathroom responsibilities, masks, and social distancing (if necessary - hopefully not!!) for themselves.
  • Students are welcome to eat snacks throughout the day and lunch between 12PM-1PM.  'Please' no nuts of any kind may be brought into our maker studio.
  • Please pack an extra change of clothes, just in case of spillage or other accidents
  • Early-morning drop-off and/or late-afternoon pickup are available.
  • Please contact us at any time with any additional clarifications and questions: (860) 272-4000.
