Description

9AM-12PM: Beginner LEGO Jurassic Park / LEGO Dinosaurs

Did you hear that?!  What was that?!  Was it a lion, a tiger, or a... DINOSAURRRRR!!!  Ahhh!!

LEGO® Dinosaurs - Jurassic Park teaches students all about dinosaurs using the fun of LEGO® bricks!  Kids learn about each of the many kinds of these reptilian beasts there were, as well as their habitats, food supply, Pangea and plate tectonics, volcanic activity and more.  Our classes play Dinosaur Jeopardy, tell Dinosaur jokes, and build vast Dinosaur landscapes utilizing more than 30,000 LEGO® bricks!  Students work in teams and present their creations to the class, family, and friends!  Super-Fun!

12PM-1PM: Lunch Break

Students should bring nut-free lunch, snacks, and juice to eat and enjoy as they get hungry throughout the day.  Water and restrooms are available.  If weather permits, campers will be taken outside to walk and enjoy the playground nearby.

1PM-4PM: Beginner Coding with Scratch - Levels 1-4

Beginner Coding with Scratch® is a super-fun way to introduce your child to the wonders of Coding!  Drag, drop, click… you’ll be amazed at what they can do!  NextGen's curriculum keeps things fresh and introduces kids to new and cool ways to practice, create, and design with Scratch.

NextGen SmartyPants teaches Beginner Coding using the Scratch Graphical Programming Language in the following four increasingly challenging levels:

Level 1 - Introduction to Scratch: Sprites, Scripts, Brackdrops, Loops, and Music
Level 2 - Broadcasting, Decisions, and Variables
Level 3 - Clones, Custom Blocks, and Boolean Logic
Level 4 - Controlling Motors and Robotics using Scratch

Students do not need to choose a level prior to enrollment. On the first day of camp, the Teacher will complete an assessment and group students accordingly.  Kids that previously registered for the Level 1 program, will be placed in Level 2, etc.  Each level takes about a week (12-15 contact hours) to complete.

Final Notes

  • All Campers are expected to be fully self-sufficient and on respectful behavior at all times.  Students are expected to address any special needs, medications, bathroom responsibilities, masks, and social distancing (if necessary - hopefully not!!) for themselves.
  • Our primary goals in our programs are for a child to have fun, try their best, and learn something. If a child is tired or needs a break or a change of activity, NextGen SmartyPants Teachers are trained to make curriculum changes, adjustments, and modifications, as necessary, in the best interest of the child and the class as a whole.
  • Students are welcome to eat snacks throughout the day and lunch between 12PM-1PM.  'Please' no nuts of any kind may be brought into our maker studio.
  • Please pack an extra change of clothes, just in case of spillage or other accidents.
  • Need a break or to do something different?  NextGen Teachers are trained to adjust curricula as needed, and in the best interest of the child.
  • Early-morning drop-off and/or late-afternoon pickup are available.
  • Please contact us at any time with any additional clarifications and questions: (860) 272-4000.
