Description

9AM-12PM: Beginner Coding with Scratch - Levels 1-4

Beginner Coding with Scratch® is a super-fun way to introduce your child to the wonders of Coding!  Drag, drop, click… you’ll be amazed at what they can do!  NextGen's curriculum keeps things fresh and introduces kids to new and cool ways to practice, create, and design with Scratch.

NextGen SmartyPants teaches Beginner Coding using the Scratch Graphical Programming Language in the following four increasingly challenging levels:

  • Level 1 - Introduction to Scratch: Sprites, Scripts, Brackdrops, Loops, and Music
  • Level 2 - Broadcasting, Decisions, and Variables
  • Level 3 - Clones, Custom Blocks, and Boolean Logic
  • Level 4 - Controlling Motors and Robotics using Scratch

Students do not need to choose a level prior to enrollment. On the first day of camp, the Teacher will complete an assessment and group students accordingly.  Kids that previously registered for the Level 1 program, will be placed in Level 2, etc.  Each level takes about a week (12-15 contact hours) to complete.

12PM-1PM: Lunch Break

Students should bring nut-free lunch, snacks, and juice to eat and enjoy as they get hungry throughout the day.  Water and restrooms are available.  If weather permits, campers will be taken outside to walk and enjoy the playground nearby.

1PM-4PM: LEGO Star Wars / LEGO CITY: Space City

What would it be like to live on an alien world?  Are we in a futuristic city, or a desert landscape crawling with bounty hunters?  Is it Tatooine, Dagobah, Coruscant, or some yet-undiscovered planet?  Do we travel by rocket, time warp, teleport, or Star Destroyer?  What do we eat, where do we live, do we have friends, or are they foes?  Let your imagination soar as we use more than 30,000 LEGO bricks to build lands in a faraway galaxy from a long, long time ago!

Final Notes

  • All Campers are expected to be fully self-sufficient and on respectful behavior at all times.
  • Students are expected to address any special needs, medications, and bathroom responsibilities for themselves.  These include any masks and social distancing requirements that may arise during the Summer.
  • Students are welcome to eat snacks throughout the day and lunch between 12PM-1PM.  'Please' no nuts of any kind may be brought into our maker studio.
  • Need a break or a change throughout the day?  Teachers will adjust curricula as needed and in the best interest of the child.
  • Early-morning drop-off and/or late-afternoon pickup are available.
