Course Description

Lions and Tigers and Bears... Oh my!

In Amazing Animals Robotics, students create their own robotic animals.  Build them; code them; and then make them RRROOOAARR!!! Students have fun and learn about engineering, coding, circuits, and sensors as they build Dinosaurs, Dolphins, Panda Bears, and much more.

Each week, students build a different animal robot. Students learn about the animal and its behavior in its natural habitat and then are provided instructions on how to build it. Students, build the robot out of LEGO bricks, gears, and pulleys as they learn Engineering concepts. They add motors, circuits, and sensors for the electronics. And then connect via Bluetooth and code their robot to react to its environment autonomously.

All the while, students have fun and apply the Math skills they are learning in school at the time.  Your child is sure to have a wild time as they build, learn, and play!

Enrollment Last-Spring

Last Spring. we had 43 registrations for 14-spaces in our Amazing Animals Robotics class. We were able to add an additional program of 14-students, but we know we were not able to accommodate everyone and apologize for that! This Summer we hired additional staff and significantly improved our training methods so that they are better able to support you and your children,

  • If your child enrolled in our 5-week course last Spring, they will begin their course this semester at Lesson #6
  • If your child is new to Amazing Animals Robotics, they will begin their course this semester at Lesson #1
  • Students are grouped together by grade-level - KG & 1st, 2nd & 3rd, 4th & 5th
  • Although the starting robot design may be similar, the rebuilding of their robot, complexity of Engineering concepts, speed of progression, and the Math skills required to redesign their robot all vary by the grade-level of the Student. In this way, we customize our lesson plans to the skills of the child so that they are always challenged at their level.

Full / Half-Semester Registration Options

With having to balance sports and everything else, we want to accommodate every child that wants to learn in our program as best as possible.  So, we've included Full, First-half, and Second-half Semester registration options for you.  Please just know that we will have to prioritize Full-Semester registrations, and then put together the First-half and Second-half registrations in order to organize a full class.

To be able to manage this properly, if the course is full, please join the Waitlist.  We use the Waitlist to gauge interest in our programs and, if necessary, add additional classes or run the program again next Semester.  There is no charge to be on the Waitlist; but if for some reason we are not able to accommodate everyone, you will, of course, receive a full refund.

Level-2 Robotics

Amazing Animals Robotics is an introductory, Level-1 course in Robotics and has no prerequisites.  Our plan is to offer your children a Level-2 Robotics class next year in Fall-2024.  For your child to be able to register for that program, our Level-2 Robotics program will require prerequisites in a Level-1 Robotics course (such as this one) and a Level-1 course in Beginner Coding.  A course in Beginner Engineering is recommended, as well.  We will be bringing these courses to you in the upcoming Semesters, so please look out for them.  To help them prepare for a future sure to be full of technology, NextGen SmartyPants also teaches courses at the Middle School and High School levels, many that build on their experiences in these programs.

Refund Policy

If your child is new to our programs, please don't worry.  If they try the first class and they 'really' don't like it, just let us know and we will refund you completely.  NextGen SmartyPants is led by a West Hartford parent - our goal is to inspire as many children as possible to want to learn more... not just extract as much money from families as possible!  Furthermore, there are not very many kids that don't like LEGO so we are really not that concerned! :)

Payment Plan
For those who prefer it, a Payment Plan is offered at check-out on the following screen.  This plan is optional and is administered by an outside company that charges a nominal fee.
